Belagavi: Higher primary Kannada school no 17 in Shahapur was allegedly ransacked by unidentified miscreants on Sunday. Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) opposition leader Ramesh Sontakki, School Development and Management Committee (SDMC) president Ganapathi Upari and other members visited the school on Monday morning after the incident came to light.
According to sources, the miscreants who consumed liquor on the school premises had burnt the school records kept in 6th and 7th standard class rooms, boxes of vitamin A tablets, attendance book, curriculum plan, Aadhaar cards, photocopies of ration cards and more. They had even damaged benches and toilets of the school.
The school authorities informed the officials that this wasn’t the first instance of miscreants damaging school property. “Several times, the school had approached the police. In one incident, the police had even warned two youths from entering the school premises during night. But it is the first time miscreants ransacked the premises,” they said.
SDMC president Upari said in the last seven months, five theft cases have been reported in the school.
Shahapur police are investigating the case.
