Vijayapura: Asserting that the country is now being ruled for capitalists and their friends, veteran activist and founder of Narmada Bacaho Andolan Medha Patkar has said that the clear example for this is the BJP Government selling of BSNL, Air India and public sector units.

Speaking at the interactive session with the slum dwellers organised by Bijapur City Slum Development Committee, she said that it is the time people should wake up to this hard reality. “We must all join hands to find against capitalist governments such as the BJP. Else the days are not far when the government will sell off all the profit making public sector units and banks to the private entities,” she said.

Stating that as the prices of land keep increasing in the urban areas, it will become dangerous for slum dwellers as many influential people will start making efforts to evacuate slum dwellers. “They will make every effort to remove the slum dwellers in order to grab the land to earn a huge amount of money from the land. In order to defeat the intentions of such people, it is very important for the slum dwellers and the organisations working for them, to remain united. Only their unity will save them from the hegemony of the influential people,” Patkar said.

She also advised the slum dwellers to keep fighting for their rights by keeping their unity.
