Vijayapura: Accusing the BJP government of making every normal issue into a communal issue to create communal tension, Former MLA and District Congress President Raju Algur has said that after BJP came to power, it has been viewing every development through a religious prism.
Addressing the mediapersons on Tuesday February 22, he said that even in the case of Shivamogga where a man reported to be a member of Bajrang Dal was hacked to death, the BJP is playing communal politics.
The BJP does not see the incident in a humanitarian or pragmatic manner, it tries to turn every issue into a religious one, he said. “Due to the BJP playing its communal agenda, Shivamogga District is tense today. The BJP wants to make every issue religious and emotiona,l” he charged.
He however demanded stringent punishment to the accused involved in the alleged murder of the young man without looking to their religion, caste or any party affiliations.
Referring to the ongoing Hijab controversy, he said that the BJP and their affiliated organisations are making it purely a communal issue.
The Constitution of India guarantees education for all, but in the name of Hijab, the BJP is making every effort to deprive education to Muslim girls.
“India is a pluralistic multicultural nation which has different customs and faiths. Every State of the country has its own customs and culture. Similarly, the uniform of some States such as the North East has the identity of their local costumes. Many leaders including Mahatma Gandhi never opposed Hijab in his life. He was indeed against untouchability and other inhuman practices,” he said.
Referring to the some of the Muslim students of PU college have been denied from attending practical classes for wearing Hijab, Algur urged the Deputy Commissioner to make arrangements for such students to attend exams. “Make alternate arrangements for such students so that they can attend practical examinations which will not deprive them of education,” he said.
With regard to the controversy that surfaced after Judge Mallikarjun Gouda allegedly insulted B. R. Ambedkar, Algur demanded the sacking of the person from the service.
“The person being in the position of judge insults Ambedkar, then such person has no right to continue in such a prestigious post. We have heard that he has now been transferred but the mere transfer is not the solution, he must be sacked from the service,” he said.
Congress Leader Abdul Hamid Mushrif, Gangadhar Sambanni, Vaijanath Karpurmath, Zamir Bakshi, Sunil Ukali, Vasant Homode and others were present.
