Vijayapura: Accusing the BJP Government of trying to saffronise the Police Department, Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and D. K. Shivakumar both expressed anguish over the Chief Minister and Home Minister not uttering a single word on the issue of police staff of Vijayapura Rural Police Station wearing saffron shawl during Vijayadashami programme recently.

Addressing a public rally during the campaign for the party’s candidate Ashok Managuli in Balaganur Village of Sindagi Taluk on Tuesday October 19, Shivakumar said that the party is keeping quiet on the issue only because the leaders are busy in the bypolls campaign. “But I will make it clear that after the end of the election, the Congress will hold a campaign to hoist a national flag at all the police stations of the State and also distribute Khaki uniforms to the police,” he said.

Earlier, Leader of the Opposition in Assembly, Siddaramaiah too raised the issue where he accused the BJP of trying to saffronise even the Police Department. It may be noted that the photo went viral a couple of days  ago where the staff of Rural Police Station of Vijayapura took a group photo by wearing a white dress with saffron shawl during Vijayadashami festival.

Earlier, while seeking votes for the Congress candidate, Ashok Managuli accused the JD( S) of calling itself a secular party but in reality it being a communal party.

“JD (S) is the party which had formed the Government with the BJP in the past. Having an internal pact with the BJP, the JD (S) still calls itself the secular party. Let me make it very clear, in the election, voting for the JD (S) is equal to voting for the BJP. In fact, the BJP is openly a communal party while the JD (S) a communal party under the guise of a secular party,” he said.

Both leaders also raised the issue of price rise and accused the BJP of making the lives of people miserable.

Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also spoke where he accused the Modi Government of failing to meet the aspirations of the people.

MLAs M. B. Patil. Shivanand Patil, Yeshwantraigouda Patil, former MLA Vinay Kulkarni, Vijayanand Kashappanavar, MLCs S. R. Patil, Sunilgouda Patil and several other leaders were present.
