Vijayapura: Asserting that the Congress is prepared to raise tough questions in the coming Monsoon Session of Parliaments, party leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sayed Nasir Hussain has said that the party will raise issues such as price rise, Covid pandemic and farm laws.

Addressing presspersons at the District Congress Committee office on Wednesday, he said that no formal meeting to discuss the issues has taken place yet, however these would possibly be raised during the session.

“ The All India Congress Committee’s Strategy Committee will convene its meeting in a couple of days where the issues would be finalized”, he said.

On the issue of farm laws, he said that the Congress has been maintaining a clear stand that it will not agree for anything less than the repealing of all three farm laws implemented by the Modi government.

“ From day one, we have been opposing the laws tooth and nail. Thus, our stand is clear: we will demand the Central Government to repeal the laws which are against the farming community of India. As far as other opposition parties are concerned, they may be having their own demand”, he said.

Hussain said that Congress will demand the government to set up a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on farm laws and reenact the laws based on the committee report.

Asked whether the party raises the issue of Sedition law and demands its removal, he said that there is no point raising the issue as the Congress is fully aware that the BJP will never remove the law as it has been using it as a tool to jail the people who are critical of the Modi government.

He said that the Congress, in its manifesto had announced that it will remove the undemocratic law if it comes to power.

“ We are still committed to remove the law if we come to power in future”,  Hussain said.

Replying to the allegations against the Congress that it is criticizing the usage of UAPA against the critics of Modi government while the law was brought by the Congress itself, Hussain said that the Congress had brought the law to prevent terrorism and organised crime but not to use against individuals who are critical of the government.

Today, the Modi government has been using the UAPA against every individual who criticizes the Modi government, the Congress is against the blatant misuse of the law, he said.

On the issue of rising prices of fuel in the country, Hussain wondered where are those BJP leaders who were hitting the streets even if the prices of petrol was being increased by even 25 paise during UPA government.

Today, when the price of petrol and diesel have reached Rs. 100/liter, the same BJP leaders have gone into hibernation, he reacted.

The Congress has decided to hold agitation across the country and in Karnataka in particular against the rising prices of fuel.

With various events such as cycle rallies, the Congress will protest against the BJP government.
