Vijayapura: With the deadline for stray cattle owners ending on Monday August 30 to take away their cattle from streets and main roads of the city, the City Corporation has decided to launch a drive to catch these cattle and release them in the Go Shalas (cow sheds).
Corporation Commissioner, Vijay Kumar Makkalagi has said that since the last date is over, the corporation has no choice but to launch a drive.
“We gave several notices to the owners of the cattle to take them to their houses as the stray cattle are creating a menace in the City. But even after several appeals and notices, the cattle owners seem to be negligent. We have to make them feel the heat now,” he said.
Making it clear that this time, the Corporation has decided to impose a fine of Rs. 10,000 to the cattle owners who want their cattle back, he said that it is only for one time, the cattle will be returned after collecting the fine.
“Even after paying a fine, the owners continue to leave their cattle on roads which will create traffic problems. The cattle will not be returned at all even if the owners are ready to pay the fine,” he said.
It may be noted that stray cattle issue has become a menace in the City as these cattle regularly cause traffic jams and create nuisance by excreting dung everywhere. Not only common people, even the Police department have raised complaints on many occasions asking the civic authorities to take appropriate action to address the issue.
“This time, we are serious about the issue and we have decided to impose a fine only to ensure that the owners do not get away easily,” Makkalagi said.
