Vijayapura: Accusing the BJP Government of failing to take up new irrigation project despite being in power in the State and Centre, Congress MLC Sunilgouda Patil said that the BJP which boasts of the double-engine government has not fulfilled any aspirations of the people.

Addressing mediapersons on Monday December 20, he said that the BJP Government in the State is weak in administration, so much that it has failed to complete even the projects launched in the previous Congress Government.

“Not even a single kilometre of new canal network has been developed in the last two and half years of BJP rule. The development works are moving at snail’s pace in the State,” he said.

Stating that the people of Karnataka have elected 25 MPs to represent them, and not even one of these MPs have not done their work responsibly, and have not raised public issues with the Central Government. “Today people are regretting for sending 25 BJP members to Lok Sabha,” he said.

Lashing out at the Government, Sunilgouda said that, “It is shocking that the State Government withdrew over 1.9 lakh houses sanctioned, under various schemes, to villagers after the results of the MLC polls. Thousands of families in rural areas are either dwelling in huts or have no houses to live. Those sanctioned houses would have given shelter to thousands of families but all their dreams went in vain. I will personally meet the Minister for Housing and demand to sanction at least 50 houses for each Gram Panchayat every year,” added Congress legislator.

To a question whether an independent candidate garnering over 1,800 votes out of 6,500 votes in recently concluded MLC polls is a threat to national parties in future, Sunilgouda pointed out that, “I have won comfortably with grossing over 3,200 first preference votes. It is not Congress but BJP that grappled to register an easy win. Minister Govind Karjol had claimed that his party candidate would gross around 5,000 votes but he failed to get even the required votes in the first round. Who did Karjol support in this election? asked Sunilgouda.

He said that he would attend the remaining one-week of
winter session and raise major issues related to Vijayapura-Bagalkot.

Meanwhile, he expressed gratitude to all the leaders of the party who stood by him and ensured his victory in the MLC polls.

Congress leader Sangamesh Bableshwar, Abdul Hameed Mushrif and Dr. Mahantesh Biradar and others were present.
