Vijayapura: Taking exception to the reported statement of Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa who said that the Congress is a sinking ship and people will have to look for it in the coming days, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief D. K. Shivakumar on Saturday October 23 has shot back stating that let Yediyurappa first find his position in his own party.

“The BJP has removed him from the post of Chief Minister. Today, he has to look for his own address and post in the party. Let him find that first before commenting on the Congress party,” he said.

Addressing presspersons in Sindagi during election campaign for the party candidate Ashok Managuli, he said that Yediyurappa is not in a position to express his pain and grief caused by the BJP to him. “The person weeps only during pain. We have all seen that Yediyurappa cried after tendering resignation, he said.

Accusing the BJP Government of betraying the farmers by not keeping the promise of doubling their income, he said that the government has not kept its promise. He said that during his visit to any farm while campaigning, he interacts with the farmers to know whether the BJP has doubled their income. “If the income has doubled, then a farmer who is earning Rs. 50,000 a year, should be earning Rs. 1 lakh, but when I talked to farmers, they said that their earning has still remained the same,” he said.

Shivakumar said that leave alone doubling their income, the farmers have not received even the relief package announced for farmers during Covid pandemic and lockdown to help the farming community. “In the byelection, what is more important is whether the BJP Government has met the promises or not. The people will vote only on basis of this,” he said.

On the claim of Yediyurappa that his party will win 140 seats in coming assembly polls, Shivakumar wondered why he left the remaining constituencies.

Congress leaders, Dhruvanarayan, M. R. Tamboli and others were present.
