Vijayapura: Stating that the presence of Central Home Minister Amit Shah in Karnataka will not boost the prospectus of the BJP for coming Assembly polls, KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar said that the BJP is making a futile attempt to win the coming elections.
Addressing media persons on Saturday December 31, Shivakumar said that the BJP Government has been announcing several irrigation projects and reservation benefits at the fag end of its tenure.
“What is the use of announcing the scheme at the fag end of the Government, when it could not do the same thing when it had enough time. The Government has only around a hundred days left. Now is it possible for these mega projects to be implemented in that short span,” he asked.
With regard to the BJP Government announcing reservations to Panchamasali and Vokkaliga communities by carving separate reservation categories, he challenged the BJP to get a reply from the leaders of these communities instead of BJP reacting and praising it.
“The new category is nothing but hoodwinking the people. So far, no leader of the community has given a public response in support of it. Only BJP leaders are praising the decision,” he said.
He also wondered how is it possible for the Government to take away the share of reservation benefits of one community and give it to another.
To a question, he asked why BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal is not saying anything about the new reservation category being announced for Panchamasalis.
“He is the same MLA who was talking against his own Government on the reservation. But now, he is saying nothing, because the party has threatened to sack him if he utters a word about reservation now,” he said.
Shivakumar said that the Government has not followed norms in announcing the new reservation category.
