Vijayapura: With less than a week left for the MLC polls, the District is buzzing with political activities as the tall leaders from national parties are campaigning for their respective party nominees fighting in legislative council polls for North-West Teachers and Graduates’ segment.

Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, CM Basavaraj Bommai and his Cabinet minister’s and other leaders from BJP will seek votes for the party candidates.

Meanwhile, former CM Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar, KPCC Campaign Committee Chief M. B. Patil and other leaders from the grand-old party will campaign for the party candidates.

The saffron party has blessed the tickets to sitting MLCs of both segments. Two-time MLC Arun Shahapur will be contesting from the NW Teachers’ segment and Hanumanth Nirani from the NW Graduates’ Constituency, whereas Congress has given the ticket to veteran Prakash Hukkeri and Sunil Sunk, fresh face for teachers and graduates’ segment, respectively.

BJP cabinet ministers including Govind Karjol and Umesh Katti hailing from the Belagavi region and former DyCM Laxman Savadi have already finished the first-round of campaigning in NW Teachers and Graduates’ Constituencies, which includes Belagavi, Bagalakote and Vijayapura Districts.

Sitting MLC Arun Shahapur, said that, “The campaigning is being carried out smoothly in the segment. I have received cooperation from all the ministers and senior leaders from the region. This week CM Bommai and Former CM Yediyurappa will address campaigns in the region for at least two days.”

“I am confident that this will change the poll mood in the constituency. I am fighting this poll with ethics unlike opponents who are spending huge money and hosting lavish lunches and dinners to voters, Shahapur alleged and added, “I am confident that I will make it to the council for the third successive term.

However, Congress has limited its campaigning only to the Belagavi District until Sunday. KPCC Campaign Committee Chief Patil has launched the Legislative Council poll campaign from Monday. The party candidates from both the segments are likely to take part in the campaigning.
