Vijayapura: Accusing the BJP Government and particularly, Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol of meting out step-motherly treatment with Nagathan Constituency, MLA Devanand Chavan has urged the Government to implement all pending development schemes without any partiality.

Addressing mediapersons on Thursday February 10, he said that several irrigation projects that were launched during the previous coalition government are being either withdrawn or suspended by the present BJP Government.

“We were hoping that since Karjol has strong connection with Vijayapura and his son had contested from Nagathan Constituency, he will do some work for the development of the constituency. But our hopes have been dashed fully,” he said.

He also accused the Minister of granting the tenders only to his followers who are now doing sub-standard works. “Since nobody is there to question them, the contractors are ruling the roost. They are making money by doing substandard quality works,” he said.

Lamenting that the farmers of the district are in distress because of the vagaries of nature, Chavan demanded the government to announce separate funds for the district in the coming budget.

“The farmers are suffering for decades. They are losing crops either to drought or to heavy rains. In both cases, their loss is certain. The government should allocate separate funds for the Vijayapura District for helping these farmers,” he said.

Regretting that Bhima River belt has become infamous for illegal activities and criminals, he said that in order to shed that tag and to rebuild confidence among people, the government should hold annual cultural events called ‘Bhimotsava’.

Like Hampi and Navarasapura Utsav are held in the State; similarly, Bhimotsava should be held,” he said.

With regard to construction of Horticulture College which was proposed in the last budget, he said that it should be constructed on Tidagundi farm which already has required infrastructure for starting of the college.

Answering a question, he said that he will wait and see how much the government will allocate for the development of Nagathan.

“I will launch padayatra from Don River to Bhima River against the injustice meted out to the region by the BJP Government,” he said.
