Vijayapura: Tuesday November 2, will turn out to be a crucial day for the three leading parties and their candidates as the counting will be held for the Sindagi by-election where the next MLA of the constituency will emerge.

Since the festival of lights, Diwali is round the corner, the victory is going to act as a festival gift for the winning candidate. The blend of different emotions are running high among the candidates and their supporters as they are anxious, excited and impatient about the results. After holding hectic rallies and campaigning for the bypolls that were held on October 30 when the fate of the candidates got sealed, the counting of votes for electing new MLA will begin at Wodeyar House of Sainik School, Vijayapura.

Three parties, the ruling BJP, the Congress and the JD(S) are testing their luck in the polls. While the BJP has chosen its former MLA Ramesh Bhusnur, the Congress has played political gamble by giving a ticket to Ashok Managuli, son of MLA late, M. C. Managuli. The JD(S) has fielded a political novice; Naziya Angadi daughter-in-law of former leader of the JD (S) late I. B. Angadi.

The constituency has recorded 69.47% voting in the election. Of the total 234437 voters, 162852 voters exercised their franchise during the polling.

Meanwhile, informing about the preparations for the counting, Deputy Commissioner, P. Sunil Kumar said that the district administration has made required preparation for the crucial day.

Addressing media persons after participating in the Rajyotsava programme at Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University on Monday November 1, he said that a total of 14 tables have been kept for the counting. He said that some 22 rounds of counting had to be held to announce the name of the new legislator.

Sunil Kumar also informed that all sorts of celebrations after the result, have been prohibited to prevent large gatherings of people during Covid pandemic.

Superintendent of Police H. D. Anand Kumar said that adequate police security has been provided to the counting centre where the EVM and VVPAT have been stored in the strong room. He said that three layers of security have been provided to the centre. While the primary layer has been secured by Central Para Military Force, the District Armed Reserve Police has been deployed for the second layer and periphery is being guarded by the civil police.

Section 144 will remain imposed in the 100-metre-radius of the counting centre.
