Vijayapura: Noted social worker and Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murthy has evinced interest in funding for the prestigious cultural event of Vijayapura – Navaraspur Utsav if she receives cooperation and support of the Archeological Survey of India and the District Administration.

During her private visit to Bijapur city on Monday August 30, she has apparently discussed this matter informally with the officials of ASI Vijayapura here.

The sources said that Murthy visited several monuments of the Adil Shahi era of the City and spent almost a full day looking at the different monuments.

Wife of Infosys Founder, Narayan Murthy, she has however made it clear that any plan to fund and hold the mega cultural event in the City is possible only in next year when the Covid situation may possibly come under control.

“As of now, we are dealing with the pandemic, and thus we cannot think of holding any cultural event in Vijayapura, but surely if the things settle down in coming days, may be next year, we can think of holding the event provided, we should get positive response from the authorities,” the sources said.

It may be noted that the Navaraspur Utsav has not been organised for several years. First, it was because of financial issues and next as the Covid pandemic added a major hurdle in holding the mega event.

The district administration, with the help of Kannada and Culture Department holds the event in Vijayapura.

The sources said that the ASI officials are happy to hear that a corporate company wants to be part of the Navaraspur Utsav.

“It is a welcome step in promoting the tourism sector of Vijayapura. If the event is held in association with a private company such as Infosys Foundation, it will be an added advantage for the growth of the tourism sector,” the sources said.
