Vijayapura: An ailing woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Krishna River near Kolhara on Monday November 14.
The deceased has been identified as Shantavva Basappa Jambagi (35), a resident of Mattihal in Kolhara Taluk. Shantavva had been physically ill for the past several years. She went to several hospitals for treatment but the disease was not cured. Shantavva had been missing from home since the morning of Monday. Family members searched for her at several places.
However, around 3.00 pm, she jumped off the Krishna River bridge near Kolhara into the Krishna River. When the fishermen noticed that a woman jumped into the river, they immediately rushed to the spot. But by the time the fishermen rushed to the rescue, Shantavva had lost her life.
Kolhara poliyce rushed to the spot after learning about the matter from the fishermen. A case has been registered at Kolhara Police Station.
