Vijayapura: Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai has said that he would soon get approval for Rs. 125 additional money in the Cabinet for upgrading the Vijayapura airport to accommodate bigger airplanes such as Airbus.

Speaking at the launching of various development works worth Rs. 400 Crore on Friday September 30, he said that Minister Govind Karjol has been demanding him to grant additional funds for the upgradation of the airport.

“I would like to announce here that I will soon grant additional funds of Rs. 125 Crore in the Cabinet and make sure that the airport is inaugurated in January or February next year.  We will invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate it,” he said.

Referring to the proposed textile park, he said that he has already announced one textile park each for Vijayapura and Gulbarga in the budget.

Bommai said that within three months, he would grant funds and lay the foundation stone for the project in the District on around 1,000-acre land.

The project, after completion, would provide jobs to at least 25,000 people and would boost industrialisation in the district, the CM said.

About providing impetus to grape farmers of the district as Vijayapura is the largest grape-growing district in the State, Bommai said that his government has earmarked Rs. 35 Crore for the purpose.

“The funds would be used for setting up grape processing units and augmenting cold storage capacity for starting raisin in the district. This would help in export of the grape to other states and will directly help the grape farmers,” he said.

He claimed that his government is focusing more on the development of the North Karnataka region, thus giving adequate funds for the purpose.

Admitting that the District needs a government medical college, he said that his government would grant one each medical college to Vijayapura and Bagalakote districts.

Union Minister Prahald Joshi, Ministers Govind Karjol, Anand Singh, C. C.  Patil, MLAs Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, Ramesh Bhusnur, A. S. Patil Nadahalli, Somanagouada Patil Sasnur and others were present.
