Vijayapura: Claiming that the works of Vijayapura Airport is going on at a steady pace, MP Ramesh Jigajinagi has said that the works would be finished by April next year and the flights would start operating.
Speaking to mediapersons during his visit to the airport site at Buranapur Village on Thursday December 8, he said that the project has been expedited after the Government gave approval to upgrade the airport to accommodate bigger flights such as Airbus – 320.
“Looking at the speed of work, I am confident that the work will be finished by April next year,” he said.
Informing that PWD is doing the work, he said that a private company of Bengaluru has appointed an advisor for the project while the design of the project has been prepared by a Uttar Pradesh based company.
Asserting that the airport will certainly boost the tourism sector of the district, he said that it will also help the farmers to transport their horticulture products such as grapes, raisins, pomegranate and lemon.
“The airport will surely come as a boon for the District as it will give much needed support for the tourism sector as the District has several world famous historical monuments. Besides this it will also help the farmers to earn profit as they can transport the goods within a limited time,” he said.
He informed that Rs. 347 Crore project is being taken up in a phased manner and said that shortly, people of the District will start flying in the airplanes.
