Vijayapura: The District which was first in the State in administering first dose of Covid vaccine by achieving the target of 104%, has now achieved another milestone by completing 100 per cent target of giving second dose also.

The Covid vaccine is being given in the District from January 16 last year, it had set the target of administering the vaccine to 1,63,4000 people.

Over 17.57 lakh people of the District got the first dose of the vaccine which was 104 per cent of the total target.

The district which did not lag behind in giving the second dose also administered the vaccine to the targeted 1634000 people. With this, the District Administration has achieved 100 per cent target of giving both doses of vaccines to the eligible people, said Deputy Commissioner P. Sunil Kumar.

He said that Vijayapura has become the second District in the State to give a second dose of vaccines to all the targeted people. Bengaluru Rural stands first in the State in vaccinating all the people of above 18 years of age. Vijayapura District has come second.

Meanwhile, the officials said that they have received no report of people facing any health issues after taking the vaccine.

“The credit for achieving this target goes to the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Health Officials and the officials of other departments,” Sunil Kumar said. He said that even various leaders and NGOs also extended support and cooperation in achieving the target. The NGOs such as Azim Premji Foundation, Sambhav Foundation, Dhwani Foundation and doctors of private hospitals also did their bit in this regard.

Explaining the methods adopted in administering the vaccine, Sunil Kumar said that the Panchayat Development Officials were asked to spread awareness that the people of rural areas should take the vaccine in the morning itself before leaving their houses for work, and due to which, by the end of October, 95 per cent of the target was achieved. Now, the 100 per cent target has already been achieved.

For the second dose, PDO were deployed for the job, instead ASHA workers and doctors held a door-to-door campaign and administered the second dose, he said.

“During the review meeting, we had told the Chief Minister that we will be achieving a 100 per cent target in the first week of February, but now we have achieved it on February 1 only. It is a matter of great pride for all of us”, he said.
