Vijayapura: Over the past 72 hours, the District has experienced an increase in both tremors and incessant rain. The District has experienced up to four earthquakes in the last 72 hours.

Minor tremors reported in the area have also been confirmed by representatives of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. However, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage caused by earthquakes in any area of the District.

“Two earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 and 1.9 were recorded on Friday,” said KSNDMC. At a depth of 10 km, the epicentre of both quakes was located in Basavana Bagewadi’s Ukkali Gram Panchayat. Between the two tremors, there is a slight difference.

Another earthquake of magnitude 3.2, at a depth of 10 km, was recorded at the same village two hours later (the third earthquake).

The fourth earthquake, measuring magnitude 2.5, was felt on Sunday at Aliyabad Gram Panchayat. At a depth of 8 km, Aliyabad was the epicentre. The tremor may be felt up to a radial distance of 20 to 30 km from the epicentre of every quake, which is observed low.

“This type of earthquake would not create any harm to the local community as the intensity observed is low, though there might be local vibrations felt. The epicentre falls in seismic zone III. The community need not panic as the magnitude and intensity observed are low,” said KSNDMC.
