Vijayapura: District to host State level Kho-Kho for 1st time

Vijayapura: The District is ready to host the first two-day State level Kho-Kho championship from November 9 at BLDE Medical College’s ground.

The event is being jointly organised by S. S. Pre-University College and the Department of Pre-University in the District for the first time.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister B. C. Nagesh is expected to inaugurate the event, while MLCs and officials are expected to attend the event.

Informing this at a press conference on Monday, S. S. PU College Administrative Officer I. S. Kalappanavar said that the college is elated and proud to host the State level Kho-Kho championship for under 18 students of Karnataka who have been selected at the District level championships.

Some eleven committees have been constituted for the preparation and monitoring of the event. He said that around 832 athletes from 32 educational districts of the State and 80 coaches are expected to participate in the event. The students are expected to arrive on November 8 to attend the event. It is going to be a day and night event as the events are expected to be held till late in the evening while they would start in the morning around 10.00 am.

The buses have been arranged for the students at the bus stations to pick them up and drop them at the respective hostels where the accommodation facility has been provided.

The BLDE association is also taking care of the food for all the participants of the event.

Around eight hostels of different schools in the City have been identified to accommodate the students. “ The BLDE association is spending a major share of funds for the food and other necessary arrangements for the event,” he said.

The District Hospital and the BLDE hostel are providing ambulance and emergency medical services during the event.

S. N. Bagali, PU DD, R. B. Kotnal, S. N. Kori, Kailas Hiremath and Girish Akkamanchi were present.
