Vijayapura: With the temperature constantly rising in the District and reaching 40 degree Celsius, the people of the district, mainly those living in urban centres are experiencing extreme heat. The temperature, which begins to rise from 10.00 am itself, continues to remain hot till around 5.00 pm. Due to the heat, people are finding it hard to visit the market or venture outside the house during the afternoon.
Vijayapura City which already has a limited number of public parks, is witnessing people taking shelter under trees during the afternoon. The park of Gagan Mahal, which has a lot of greenery and trees, is the best place for people to take shelter. Many people, mainly who come for some work from villages, take a nap under the shady trees till evening before catching the bus back to their villages. The selling of fruits such as watermelon, lemonade and cold drinks has significantly increased in the ci6ty. In order to remain hydrated and beat the heat, people are visiting juice centres.
Knowing the problem of people, many philanthropists have kept drinking water pots and cans in different places of the City. These cold water cans have come as great relief to people who fail to bring water cans along with them. Even those who bring cans are visiting these places to refill the cans with cold water.
Since it is also holy month of Ramzan when Muslim offer fast from early morning till evening, they are facing more difficulty than the common people.
Those who fast, cannot even gulp a drop of water till evening. Thus they are finding it hard to remain on fast till evening.
Compared to last year when many children had fasted, this year, because of the extreme heat, the parents are not encouraging their children to fast.
