'Mega cold storage for grape farmers being set up

Vijayapura: Stating that the grape is one of the prominent horticulture crops of the District which has great demand in the State and abroad, Deputy Commissioner, Vijaymahantesh Danammanavar has said that the Government is establishing a high-tech cold storage for grape farmers at Toravi Village at the cost of Rs. 35 Crore.

He said this while delivering a Republic Day address after unfurling the National Flag and receiving Guard of Honour on account of 74th Republic Day programme at the District Stadium on Thursday January 26. He said that in the absence of the large cold storage in the District, the farmers were being forced to take their produce to cold storage of Maharashtra to store them.

“Realising the need for one such mega cold storage, the Government has decided to establish it in the District itself. The works of the project are underway,” he said.

Referring to the ongoing ambitious Airport Project, Danammanavar said that the majority of the project works have been completed to construct the airport that accommodates Airbus – 320 aircrafts. He said that with an objective of providing better facilities to the Lambani Taanda dwellers, the Government has issued final notification to convert 76 of the 173 Taandas of the District into Revenue Villages.

Prime Minister, recently handed over the Title Deed to 1783 beneficiaries of 13 Taandas at the event held, recently.

Mentioning about the features of Indian Constitution which came into effect on January 26, 1950, he said that the Constitution of India framed by B. R. Ambedkar enshrines various preaching of equality propagated by saints and sufis of the country. He said that the Constitution of India makes it amply clear that political Democracy can be achieved only when social and economic Democracy is blended aptly.

He called upon the people to strive to protect the basic aspirations of the Constitution of India which fundamentally speaks of equality and developing scientific temper. “Prior to coming to the stadium, Danmmanavar visited Gandhi Bhavan with his family where he paid homage to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and hoisted the India Flag.

Later, the District Administration honoured several achievers of various fields including sports, literature, social works, and farming etc.

A special honour was also given to agencies and officials involved in arranging for marquee and stage at Sainik School, Vijayapura here the body of late Seer, Siddeshwara Swamy was kept for the public to pay their last respect. Lakhs of people turned up at Sainik School and no untoward incident took place.

Cultural events by school children were also presented.
