Vijayapura: Age and personal constraints often do not come as a hurdle in the passion and perseverance for education. This was proved yet again in the ongoing SSLC examination in the State where a lactating mother came to write the exam with her four-month-old infant.

Taslima Makandar, native of Kodaganur Village of Talikot Taluk, arrived at the examination centre in Muddebihal Town of the District to attend the SSLC  examination. Attending the exam as a private student, the Education Department Officials have permitted her to attend the exam in a centre located in Muddebihal Town.

To write her exams, she has to travel around 35 kilometres from her village to reach the exam centre till the end of all papers. However, she feels happy to travel 35 kilometres instead of coming to Vijayapura City to write the exam. Earlier, the Government had norms that the private students should attend exams only in District headquarters. Now, after the relaxation in the norms, the travel time and money of private students is being saved as they can attend the exam in the nearest centre.

While Taslima was busy writing exams, her four-month-old baby was nursed and taken care of by ASHA worker Uma Sharadalli who was sitting outside the exam centre. The exam lasted for three hours, and till that time, Uma did her job of taking care of the baby so that the mother could write the exam without being worried about her son.
