Vijayapura: Claiming that one independent Corporator has joined the BJP and two more are expected to join the party, MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has announced that this time BJP will have its Mayor and the Deputy Mayor.

Addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of the Rajyotsava programme at B. R. Ambedkar District Stadium on Tuesday November 1, he said that he is confident of having the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the BJP this time.

Refuting the statements that the party has failed to get a clear majority as it could get only 17 seats, Yatnal said that the party getting 17 seats is a big thing.

“No party in the past has got 17 seats, and the BJP is the first party which achieved this feat. Though the party could have won at least three more seats as the candidates lost by a margin of less than a hundred votes, the present victory is also significant,” he said.

Claiming that many of the leaders of his own party were hatching a conspiracy to ensure the defeat of the party candidates and finish him off politically, he said that none of their plans worked as the people have given their mandate to the BJP.

“Some leaders of our party from Bengaluru and Mudhola Taluk of Bagalakote District were conspiring but the people of Vijayapura City have taught them a fitting lesson. At least now they should stop making such clandestine efforts and sit at him by taking political retirement,” he said.

Yatnal however did not reveal the names of those leaders who he claimed had hatched the conspiracy to defeat their own party candidates in the polls.

Giving credit to the development works by the BJP Government and the agenda of Hindutva for the victory of the party in the City Corporation elections, the MLA said that the party will focus on the development of the City.

He said that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has given adequate funds for the development of Vijayapura City and people are happy with that.

To a question, he said that the result will make an impact on the coming Assembly elections and people will again vote for the BJP.
