Vijayapura: Expressing dismay over the functioning of some of the police officials in discharging their duties, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar has said that if the police personnel did their job well, then they will say it with complete confidence before anybody.

Speaking at the public grievances meeting here on Wednesday July 20, he was replying when a few police officials failed to reply properly to him on cases filed at their respective police stations. In one such case of alleged assault and attempt to murder reported from Kudagi Village of Basavanabagewadi Taluk, the complaint said that despite filing complaint, the police have not arrested the accused.

When Kumar inquired about the case with the police, the officials did not give a satisfactory reply. They said that because of the jurisdiction matter, the case has been shifted to Kolhar Police Station.

At that time, Kumar asked the Deputy Superintendent who is in-charge of both stations, why he did not take action when the case falls under his jurisdiction.

“Where is this Kolhar located in China?”, he retorted.

He also directed the police to file a case and arrested the person.

In a case related to cheating, a woman said that a police official attached to Kudgi Police Station took Rs. 22 lakh from her promising to get a job in the Police Department for her son.“ The accused is working in the Police Department. Till date, neither he has returned my money nor has got job for my son in the Police Department. I want justice, please either get me my money or ensure that he is sacked from the service,” she said.

To this, Kumar directed the police to file a case against the erring persons and ensure that he loses his job if he can’t repay the money.

In one of the general complaints on usage of loudspeakers at the religious places, he said that the people will have to adhere to the direction of the court on timing and decibel limit of the sound generated through loudspeakers from the religious places.

The complaint was apparently filed by a pro-Hindu activist who said that despite the ban, loudspeakers are used in the mosques to call for azan.

To this, Kumar said that the rule on loudspeakers applies to all religious institutions and not to one particular religion. He directed the people to follow and said that police will take necessary action if any religious institutions fail to follow the rule.
