Vijayapura: With the objective of promoting lime production in the State, mainly Vijayapura which is the largest producer of lemon in Karnataka, the Karnataka State Lime Development Board will hold a first of its kind Lime Festival-2022 in Vijayapura on April 23 and 24.
Informing that after flagging off Krishi Sanjeevini mobile van at the DC office here, Board Chairman Ashok Allapur said that the two-day event will be held at Ranga Mandir premises.
“It is one of the first such events being held in the State where different varieties of lemon will be exhibited, farmers will be educated on cultivating and higher earnings. Various aspects of cultivation, preservation, marketing, packaging, value addition and producing different byproducts using lemon”, he said.
He appealed to all the lemon growers of the State to participate in the event and avail of the benefits.
Elaborating more on the event, he said that at least 40 stalls will be kept during the festival. Various experts will share their knowledge with the farmers. They will interact with the farmers to clear their doubts and enhance their knowledge.
Informing that already lime has been selected by the Prime Minister’s ambitious ‘one district one product’ project, he said some 42 beneficiaries are expected to avail 50 per cent subsidy on setting up of various units for making byproducts of the lime.
Union Minister for the State of Agriculture, Shobha Karandlaje is expected to inaugurate the event and Horticulture Minister, Muniratna will also attend.
Allapur said that the van will visit different taluks of the district to spread awareness of the event and ensure the participation of lemon farmers in large numbers.
