Vijayapura: The denial of ticket to Gopal Karjol, son of veteran BJP leader and Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol from Nagathan SC Reserved constituency has severely upset his supporters.
The disappointment is more not merely because of the denial of the ticket, but more because the party has reportedly refused to offer a ticket as it is not in favour of ‘dynastic politics’.
“First we had no clue as to why the party was taking so much time to announce his name as Gopal Karjol was the only strong contender for the ticket. Moreover, since he had lost in the last Assembly election by a small margin, therefore, we were hoping that the party would consider a ticket to him only. But now, we hear from the party leaders that the ticket has been denied as the party is not in favour of dynastic politics,” said one of the close associates of Gopal Karjol.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, he wondered how come the dynasty politics applies only to Karjol’s family and not to others.
“The BJP has given tickets to siblings; Karnunakar Reddy and Somashekhar Reddy. Two family members of Umesh Katti, the Former Minister, have been given ticket, son of B. S. Yediyurappa got a ticket, and similarly many family members of the BJP leaders have been given ticket. When they can get the ticket then why Gopal Karjol can’t get a ticket mainly when he was given a ticket in the last Assembly election in 2018 when his father Govind Karjol was BJP MLA,” he said.
Meanwhile the BJP has given ticket to Sanjeev Aihole, a not so known face in the politics. According to the BJP sources, Aihole was a ZP Member between 2011 and 2016 from Agarkhed ZP.
The name of Aihole has also surprised the BJP leader as the party has given a ticket to a completely new face who has limited political experience.
“We have no idea what has prompted the party to offer ticket to a novice especially when the party had aspirants such as Gopal Karjol and MP Ramesh Jigajinagi who had also sought ticket. The party has neither considered Gopal Karjol nor Ramesh Jigajinagi,” he said.
