Vijayapura: I will fight till my last breath to make a Dalit, the Chief Minister in the State. Dalits in State politics are neither mindless nor unworthy. If people from all communities have become Chief Ministers, why can’t there be Dalit CMs?,he questioned. The party High Command should make Dalit the Chief Minister in the next elections, said Vijayapura MP Ramesh Jigajinagi.
Speaking to mediapersons in Indi Town on Tuesday November 8, he said that those who are 1 per cent of the population have become CM after the independence of the country, while majority of all communities too have become chief ministers. But why can’t a person from Dalit Community that constitutes 24 per cent of the population, become the Chief Minister? I will discuss this issue in the party forum, he said.
“The people of the constituency are demanding to contest from Nagathana in the District in the upcoming 2023 Assembly Elections. Having entered the Assembly from the same Constituency which was earlier known as Ballolli Assembly, I have done public service as an MLA from this region and as a minister in various departments. So I have to contest the Assembly elections, he reiterated.
“Though there is a demand from the people of the constituency and party workers that I should contest the Assembly elections, the decision of the High Command is final. Finally, it will be the party’s decision on whether I will contest the Lok Sabha election or contest the Assembly election, he noted.
