Vijayapura: With an aim to make hostel students understand the concepts better and improve their academics – Zilla Panchayat has launched a new initiative – ‘Mission Vidyapura’, where evening tuitions will be conducted in the pre-metric hostels in the District.

It is a first of its kind initiative in the region. Everyday after school hours – the tuition classes for the following three subjects, English, Mathematics and Science will be held for only Classes 9 and 10. On a pilot basis it has been kick-started in at least 16 government hostels including backward classes and minority hostels in the region.

This initiative is receiving an overwhelming response from both the students and teachers, who are working in state-run schools. The tuition has already kick-started in each taluk. Importantly, the classes will be personally monitored by the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde.

Shinde pointed out that these evening tuitions will help students to understand the concepts in a different and better way. The passionate teachers, who are volunteering for the initiative, would help students to get better in the three subjects. This would also augment their learning.

“At present this initiative has been started only in 16 hostels of the District. In the coming days, it will be extended to all the pre-metric hostels using MLA-LAD, CSR or ZP funds. We are also asking teachers to volunteer for this initiative. We are also planning to pay honorarium from existing schemes of these departments to the teachers.”

“These tuition classes are not exclusively conducted for hostel students; even the students from nearby villages can attend evening tuitions. This initiative is turning out to be a big hit among students as each tuition class witnesses full strength. The students are showing keen interest, which is motivating us to extend it to all the hostels,” Rahul elaborated about the Mission Vidyapura.

For the smooth conduct of tuitions, the authorities have appointed one nodal officer for one subject. Teachers have been given the responsibility to monitor the performance of the students and hostel warden to look after the attendance of the students. As of now 15 teachers have registered voluntarily for each subject and this number is expected to go up in coming days, said an official, who wished to remain anonymous.
