Vijayapura: Conceding the party defeat in the Sindagi bypolls, JD (S) leader and MLA Bandeppa Khashampur has said that the party had fielded the candidate to show its existence despite the fact that the party has no strong base in Sindagi constituency.

Speaking to persons on Tuesday November 2, he said that the party had realised on the day one of the campaign that it has no strong party worker and the leaders to campaign. “Yet, we decided to field the candidate because it was our candidate that had won in the last assembly polls. Moreover, we had to show our presence in the political arena, thus, the party decided to field the candidate,” he said.

Khashampur said that except late, M. C. Managuli and his family there were no local other leaders. “Later, even those leaders were hijacked by the Congress party,” he said.

Claiming that the party leaders including Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda and Former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy campaigned vigorously for the victory of the candidate Naziya Angadi, he however regretted that it failed to convert into votes.

“Moreover, the mentality of the voters is also changing and that they began voting only for the winning candidate. Perhaps the voters felt that the JD (S) may not be winning, therefore they did not vote for us,” he said.

He said that the party will start working hard to win the highest number of seats in the next assembly polls to be held in 2023.
