Vijayapura: After Dharwad MP and Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Prahlad Joshi asked staff of South Western Railway (SWR) to consider the proposal to introduce operating new Rajdhani Express train from Hubballi to New Delhi, the people of Vijayapura and Bagalkot are now demanding the same train to cover both the Districts too.
According to the sources, Joshi has asked the officials of SWR to operate the Rajdhani Express connecting Hubballi to national capital New Delhi. The officials too have agreed to take up the matter to the Railway Board for consideration.
It may be noted that the people of the twin-districts have been demanding the Railway Ministry to introduce the Rajdhani Express train in order to reach New Delhi directly from these districts.
If the demand is met then it will be the first daily super fast express train to operate to New Delhi from Hubballi covering Vijayapura and Bagalkot. At present only four trains are being operated to New Delhi via Hubballi, where all are either bi-weekly or weekly express trains. It may be noted that not even a single train connecting to the national capital ply from Vijayapura.
After news broke out that Union Minister Joshi advised to operate Rajdhani Express from Hubballi, the residents of Vijayapura and Bagalkot are now demanding the Railway Ministry to operate this super fast train via Vijayapura. Hundreds of people active in micro-blogging sites from the region announced support for the Twitter campaign.
Ashok Hallur, President of Vijayapura Railway Action Committee, pointed out that a daily train connecting to New Delhi via Vijayapura is the need of the hour for this region. Efforts are being made to operate a train from Hubballi to New Delhi through Vijayapura but the requests have not been considered so far.
“When people of both the Districts need to travel to New Delhi, then they either have to go to Solapur or Hubballi or Kalaburagi. The railway authorities have to introduce a train connecting New Delhi via Vijayapura. It will not only help the region connect with the national capital but also connect many popular tourist places and pilgrimages of North India,” opined Railway Activist Hallur.
It may be noted that when late Union Minister of state for Railways Suresh Angadi had visited Vijayapura to flag off a daily special express train in 2019, Vijayapura City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal had demanded the Railway Minister to operate Sampark Kranti Express (Bengaluru-New Delhi) via Vijayapura. The Railway Minister had promised to fulfill the demand. however, it has remained unfulfilled till date.
When asked the SWR authorities whether they will operate the newly proposed Rajdhani Express via Vijayapura, Aneesh Hegde, Chief Public Relations Officer, said that they will examine the demand.
