Vijayapura: After as many as seven cases of Covid got reported in Akkamahadevi Women’s University here, it has been decided to close down the university for a week from Friday January 21. The decision has been taken as per the order of the Government that states if any educational institution reports at least five Covid cases, then such institution should be closed for a week.
According to sources, the University received details of the postive cases on Thursday January 20, following which the announcement was made to close down university for a week.
Meanwhile the sources said that sanitation of university premises is being undertaken.
Besides university, four schools of the District have also been closed for a week after Covid cases got reported among students. The schools include Government High School in Dhavalagi in Muddbihal Taluk where 20 cases have been reported, an aided school of the same taluk has reported 6 cases, an unaided school in Indi Taluk has reported 8 cases and another school in Bableshwar has reported 14 cases. All these schools have declared holiday for a week.
Meanwhile as many as 365 children aged between 0 and 18 have been tested Covid postive in the District beginning January 1. Of them, highest is 208 children aged between 11and 15 followed by 110 cases between age group of 16 and 18 have been reported as Covid postive.
The District on Friday reported 474 new Covid cases.
