Bengaluru: Jayant M. Tinaikar, a whistleblower, who helped police in arresting Abdul Karim Telgi in the multi-crore stamp paper scam, was attacked by unidentified armed assailants on Friday March 4. The incident happened on the outskirts of Belagavi City.
The masked assailants allegedly stopped Tinaikar’s car and assaulted him using rods before fleeing, informed the Belagavi rural police.
According to sources, he was initially taken to a hospital in Khanapur before being moved to Belagavi.
Tinaikar’s call to Bengaluru City Police Commissioner H. T. Sangliana in 2001 led to Telgi’s arrest in Ajmer. He had previously given police constant updates. Telgi was sentenced to 30 years in prison and died in custody in Victoria Hospital due to illness.
Tinaikar had also faced life threats earlier too. After running for Lok Sabha in 2004, he has remained low key.
He recently appeared in a documentary in which he spoke about the scam.
