Bengaluru: A team of doctors treating 45-year-old Sidda, an injured elephant, said that the tusker was responding well to the medication. Forest minister Ramanath Rai visited Averi Halli village near Manchanabele dam on Wednesday where the 45-year-old jumbo is recuperating at a temporary kraal.
Chief Wildlife Warden Hosmath said that Rai checked on the elephant’s condition, spoke to the doctors and learned about the status. A team of doctors and forest officials was also present.
One of the doctors who spoke to media said, the elephant after being moved to the temporary enclosure is showing improved blood circulation and body balance. The elephant is consuming good quantity of food as opposed to previous condition where he was lying on one side, he said.
Sidda had suffered injuries to its legs and shoulders when it fell into a ditch at Dodderi on August 30. The Forest department then escorted it back to Savandurga. However, crippled with severe pain, the elephant was spotted floating in the backwaters of the reservoir. Its foreleg was broken and pus-filled. Sidda who was lying down more than two months, was shifted to a temporary enclosure with the help of Madras Engineering Group (MEG) on November 10.
