Bengaluru: All schools are to have a “water bell”, as per the recent decision of the state government, which was taken after considering the children’s health.
The state government rolled out its orders in relation to the new system to be initiated in schools on Monday, December 23.
As per the orders, schools will have to have two ‘water bells’, one in the morning and another in the noon. The bell will be rung in between the second and third class hours in the morning and in the noon between the third and fourth class hours. This way, the children will have 10 minutes during each break.
The state government has implemented this system as per the Kerala Model.
It can be noted that state education minister Suresh Kumar, in his November 13 tweet, had written, “The decision of ‘water bell’ is taken in the purview of children’s health. The commissioner of school education has been directed to chalk out a programme with regard to this. #WaterBell… Schools in Kerala Ring Water Bell thrice a day to ensure children drinks enough water. Schools implement them in order to avoid the health issues among children from not drinking water…. Water Bell needs to be mandanted in all schools in the country….”
