10-Year-Old Boy Dies After Touching High-Tension Wire in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A 10-year-old boy named Anant, who sustained severe burns after accidentally coming into contact with a high-tension power line in KR Puram, succumbed to his injuries on Friday, police confirmed.
The tragic incident occurred on June 5, when Anant was playing with a broom on the third floor of a building in Swatantra Nagar. In a heartbreaking turn, the broom inadvertently brushed against a live power cable, resulting in electrical burns over 80% of his body.
Hearing his screams, alarmed neighbours rushed to his aid and immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to Victoria Hospital’s burns unit, where he fought for life for over two weeks.
Despite medical efforts, Anant was declared dead on June 21. Doctors submitted a medico-legal case (MLC) report to the KR Puram police station. As of now, no formal police complaint has been lodged by the family.
Anant’s family, originally from Nepal, had moved to Bengaluru two years ago. He lived with his mother and two sisters, while his father remains in Nepal for work.
This incident underscores growing concerns about unsafe electrical infrastructure near residential buildings in Bengaluru and calls for urgent inspection and safety measures to avoid further tragedies.
