Bengaluru: The state government has decided to promote more than 11,000 policemen in January, according to Minister for Home Dr G Parameshwar.

Dr G Parameshwar announced it after distributing promotion letters to 1200 policemen from Central range at Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre on Tumkur Road. “The state government has taken all measures to strengthen the police department in the state. Now, police constables can be promoted up to inspector level before their retirement. The promotions will be made once in 10 years in future. Till now, police constables were not promoted even after putting 25 years’ service but our government has facilitated the promotion for police constables after completing 10 years of service,’’ the home minister said.

The home minister said the government has promoted 1200 police constables from Central range and arrangements have been made to promote 11,212 policemen in January. “From now onwards, the policemen will be promoted based on their service. As decided earlier, policemen will get Rs 2,000 extra apart from salary. It will be implemented from January,’’ the home minister said.
He said the government has decided to give Rs 400 cash to policemen instead of supplying food grains through PDS shops. “We have decided to add Rs 2,400 extra to their salary account every month. Efforts are on to construct 11,000 houses for policemen. The construction of the houses will be completed within a few months. Our government is committed to provide basic needs and security to policemen,’’ he said.

65 psychiatrists
Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar said the government has decided to appoint 65 psychiatrists for counseling policemen who suffer from depression and tension while on duty.

The home minister said the home department has made arrangements to buy 150 buses and 140 Bolero jeeps to facilitate policemen travel in the state. “The home department has taken a historic decision to open seven residential schools (one residential school in each zone) for the children of policemen in seven zones in the state,’’ he said.

He said the finance department has given consent to fill up all vacancies in the police department in the next three years. “The process to recruit 629 assistant sub-inspectors is in progress. It is expected to be completed within a few days,’’ he said.
