20 held for extorting money from private school principal

Bengaluru: The police have arrested 20 persons for allegedly trying to extort money from a private school principal in JP Nagar police station limits.

The police have identified the arrested persons as K Dasharath (42), state president, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Committee, Veerappa (41) from Anekal, Harish (42), general secretary, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Committee, Prasanna Kumar (35), vice president, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Committee, Chikballapur district, Arun (40), member, S J Sainath (45), joint secretary, Jetaram (34), president, JP Nagar unit, Krishnaram (28), secretary, Basavanapura unit, Elumalai (54), secretary, Basavanapura unit, Arun Kumar (27), president, Dinnepalya unit, V Srinivas (42), president, Bengaluru autozone, Kumara Swamy (25), vice president, Bengaluru Rural, Dharmendra (27), general secretary, Jigani unit, M Manjunath (36), vice president, Bengaluru South, Satyanarayana (34), member, Satish (32), coordinator, Hennagara uni, Gopal (24), member, Siddappa (50), secretary, Bengaluru South, Shivappa (41), president, Bengaluru South and Ravish (33), vice president, Bengaluru South.

The police have also seized eight four-wheelers from the arrested persons. According to the police, the arrested persons had allegedly barged into the premises of Narayana E Techno School, situated at Ashwath Narayana Layout, 7th phase of JP Nagar and demanded the school principal to produce the letter of affiliation from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). They told the principal that they have received some complaints from the parents against the school management for not availing the required letter of affiliation from the CBSE.

Based on a complaint lodged by A V Narayana Reddy, assistant general manager of Narayana E Techno School, the JP Nagar police have registered a case against the volunteers of the so-called organization under Sections 143, 147, 149, 341, 384, 448 and 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have produced the arrested persons before the 44th ACMM Court. The judge has remanded the accused to judicial custody.
