Bengaluru: A 20-year-old youth was tracked by Bengaluru Police after he allegedly staged his own kidnapping in order to extort Rs. 5 lakh from his father.

The accused is identified as Makthum Saab (20), a resident of Kurubarahalli, Mahalakshmipura. He is also a private firm employee. Sources state that he confessed to the Police that he had spent a lot of money on his girlfriend, but she died in a tragic road accident in August.

He stated that he took a loan of Rs. 3 lakh to fulfil his wishes for branded clothes and mobile phones.

It was on September 13 that Ghaani Saab, Makthum’s father filed a complaint stating that unidentified miscreants had abducted his son and were demanding Rs. 5 lakh.

He also said that his son’s phone was coming switched off since September 12.

Upon investigation, Police officials found out that Makthum was in Tirupati and he reached there using self-driven car. The team kept a track on him in Tirupati and realised that he was not kidnapped and arrested him. He was brought back to the City on September 14.
