7 held in Shivaji statue desecration case in B’luru

Bengaluru:  According to sources, seven people have been arrested by Sadashivanagar Police for allegedly desecrating the Shivaji statue at Bengaluru’s Bashyam Circle.

Miscreants smeared black on the statue at midnight on Thursday December 16. Further investigation is on in this regard.

After this incident, on Saturday December 19 Maharashtra Ekikarana Samiti (MES) activists allegedly vandalised a statue of Sangolli Rayanna, a 19th-century icon who fought the British, in Angol, South Belagavi. In this regard, 27 persons have been arrested, and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed in Belagavi till the morning of December 20.
