Bengaluru: A nine-member State legislature committee, led by BJP MLC N. Ravikumar, will be looking into the issue of dress code, which prohibits any member or visitor from entering their premises if they are dressed in Indian traditional clothing or non-formal attire.
“Why should someone impose limits on what we wear when the dress is comfortable and decent?” questioned BJP MLC N. Ravikumar, claiming that insisting on following a specific dress code is not right and should be ended.
He said that once the Covid cases are dropped, the committee will make a proposal to the government after touring the clubs across the State. Other violations, such as running bars without permission, will be investigated by the committee. “We will also aim to adopt best practises from other states’ clubs,” he added.
Several recreation clubs in Karnataka have a dress code that prohibits visitors from entering if they are dressed in veshti (dhoti), Indian attire, informal/casual clothing, or chappals.
