Bengaluru: Police arrested a 41-year-old woman advocate on Saturday April 23 in connection with a baby-selling racket.

The arrest accused has been identified as Bhanumathi K. P.

Basavanagudi police busted the racket and arrested five persons, including two women, in connection with the case last October.

The gang sold roughly 13 infants to childless couples, after buying the babies from their biological parents.

According to sources, Bhanumati will go to hospitals and gather information about childless couples, claiming that she could help them legally adopt a child. Rather than helping with adoption procedures, Bhanumati will persuade the couples to buy a child and then prepare “legal” agreements between the buyer and the seller.

Mahesh Kumar (50) of Kathriguppe, Dhanalakshmi (30) of Mallasandra near Jalahalli, Janardhan alias Janardhanan (33) of Erode in Tamil Nadu, and Ranjana Devidas Kandagale (32) of Maharashtra are the others arrested in the case.
