Bengaluru: A son’s attempt to get his alcoholic father treated for his alcoholic addiction turned awry with the latter firing six bullets at him in a fit of anger.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night when Pradeepa confronted his father Munikalappa (62), a resident of Hoysala Layout in Amruthalli village over his alcoholic habits and insisted that he visit a de-addiction center with him the next morning.
An argumentensued between the fatherand son and an angry Munikalappa stormed into his room, took out his licensed double barrel gun and fired at Pradeepa.
As Pradeepa ran out of the house to save himself, Munikalappa chased him and fired nearly six bullets at him. However since he was in a drunken stupor, most of the bullets missed their mark. The neighbors alerted the police upon hearing the commotion. They came and escorted him to the police station.
During the course of inquiry Munikalappa is said to have admitted to firing at his son for forcibly trying to take him to a rehabilitation centre. The police seized his gun and registered a case.
Munikalappa, a farmer and owner of many commercial and residential buildings, has been asked to undergo treatment and counselling sessions to overcome his alcoholism, it is gathered.
