Bengaluru: The Konaje police have arrested six people and seized Rs. 3.48 crore worth of Ambergris, an illegal marine substance often known as whale vomit or grey amber.
The suspects, who were from Bengaluru and Udupi, were selling Ambergris near Navodaya School in Balepuni, according to DCP (law and order) Hariram Shankar.
The cops recovered 3.48 kg of ambergris.
Prashanth (24), of Jadkal in Kundapura, Satyaraj (32), of Veera Bhadra Nagara in Bengaluru, Rohith (27), of Thenkedapadavu, Rajesh (37) of Addur, Virupaksha (37) of Thenkaedapadavu, and Nagaraj (32) of Kaup were among those arrested.
The accused had informed the police that they had acquired Ambergris from a Tamil Nadu fisherman named Sedu Manikya.
ACP Dinakar Shetty ordered the raid, which was carried out by Konaje police inspector Prakash Devadiga, PSIs Sharanappa Bhandadry and Mallikarjuna Biradar, ASIs Mohan Deralakatte and Sanjeeva, and other officers.
