Bengaluru: Congress on Saturday April 9 appointed 149 new office-bearers to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.

Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi has approved the appointment of 40 Vice Presidents and 109 General Secretaries. The appointment comes after two years of D. K. Shivakumar being appointed as its KPCC Chief.

According to party sources, apart from caste, regional representation and appointment of old and new leaders have been looked into.

The highest number of leaders who are appointed are from backward castes. Over 53 leaders are from the OBC category. This is followed by 25 SC, 22 minority, 19 from lingayat, and 16 from the Vokkaliga community. As many as 23 women leaders have also found a place on the list.

Meanwhile, AICC State In-Charge Randeep Singh Surjewala is visiting the State from Monday April 11. He will hold divisional level meetings on the party organisational matters and preparations for the 2023 elections.
