Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), in partnership with Refex eVeelz, has launched electric taxis for passengers starting June 5. These eco-friendly taxis can be booked at the airport taxi stands in both terminals or via the ‘BLR Pulse’ mobile app. The base fare is Rs 100 for the first 4 km, with an additional Rs 24 per km thereafter.
Speaking during the World Environment Day celebrations, Hari Marar, MD & CEO of BIAL, highlighted that Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) was the first in India to offer airport taxis. Now, with the introduction of 175 electric taxis, the airport aims to expand this number further.
Marar also shared plans to convert all airport vehicles to electric, including semi-robotic aircraft towing vehicles and shuttle buses. The goal is to significantly reduce carbon emissions, enhancing environmental sustainability both at the airport and beyond.
Currently, other private operators like BluSmart and Shoffr also provide electric taxi services. The new airport taxis feature two colors: teal for sustainability and pink for female passengers, enhancing safety and inclusivity. Passengers will receive a ‘pink card’ with emergency contact numbers.
