Bengaluru: Primary and Secondary Education Minister B. C. Nagesh claimed on Saturday May 28 that former textbook revision committee Chairman Baraguru Ramachandrappa was responsible for the present controversy surrounding school textbooks in the State.
“The committee led by Baraguru Ramachandrappa revised all textbooks. The government has now revised Kannada and Social Science textbooks. the lesson on Bhagat Singh had not been withdrawn,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons he said, “The lesson about the warriors who fought against the British deals with Tipu Sultan. Didn’t community leaders like Veera Madakari Nayaka, Kittu Rani Chennamma, and Halagali Beda fight the British? Is it wrong to include lessons on them in textbooks? Did they fight against Siddaramaiah?”
“Mysuru Wadiyar pledged his wife’s ornaments for the construction of the KRS dam, Shouldn’t the government educate kids about such kings? Was it correct to replace the Sindhu Culture lesson with a lesson on Jawaharlal Nehru’s daughter’s letters? ” he asked.
