Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has given the Technical Vigilance Cell under Commissioner (TVCC) powers to check quality by selecting projects at random.

The TVCC has also been tasked with inspecting works whenever a complaint of poor execution is received.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath issued an order to this effect.

“In line with the original purpose of forming such an entity, the TVCC has been given more powers. So far, they have handled all of the bills. This left the engineers with little or no time to check the quality of the work,” Girinath said.

The TVCC has been directed to focus on conducting surprise checks, inspecting bills on a random basis every month to ensure their accuracy, and investigating civil works complaints,

A Chief engineer currently leads the TVCC, which includes at least eight executive engineers. The TVCC had become an irrelevant body, despite the fact that it was intended to report directly to the Chief Commissioner. It had no track record of reducing the amount of discrepancies, violations, or recommending action against engineers for poor work.
