Bangalore: The officials from Bruhat Bangalore MahanagaraPalike (BBMP) along with members from the Bangalore Realtors Organization met Urban Infrastructure experts on Tuesday August 19 to find solutions to some of the key problems plaguing the city including heavy traffic and lack of sufficient basic infrastructure facilities.
They sought the advice of senior urban infrastructure experts to aid in sustainably developing the city and converting it into an attractive investment destination. It is reported that proposals for flyovers at 10 to 15 places in the city are being studied, and may be implemented on merit basis. Infrastructure Minister Roshan Baig and BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana were present at the meet.
New BBMP Act proposed
Following the lines of huge metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, who have separate acts for their city corporations, District Minister Ramalinga Reddy proposed to implement a similar act in Bangalore based on the needs of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
This was proposed at a meeting with the BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana, Bangalore Urban Development officials and other key people on Tuesday. The new BBMP Act will also aim to reorganize the city into new and efficient zones with equal number of constituencies and a zonal commissioner heading it.
BBMP Officials taken to task
Noting that the officials have not been discharging their duties in a timely and regular manner, the BBMP has warned several officials, while serving show cause notices to three of them.
A contractor with the BBMP was fined a whopping Rs. 1 lakh for not discharging his duty of clearing of garbage at KR Market. The BBMP hopes that such fines will serve as a deterrent to negligent officials and contractors.
