BBMP levies penalties on health centres for unscientific biomedical waste disposal

Bengaluru: Taking stringent action against hospitals and diagnostic centres, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) levied penalties totaling of Rs 54,000 for disposing biomedical waste in an unscientific manner.

The BBMP Health Department officials found that a few of the hospitals and clinics had dumped biomedical waste on the road side. It is a violation of the Municipal Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000. The officials from Dasarahalli zone raided many places and levied penalties.

According to a release from BBMP, the penalties include Rs 25,000 on Lakshmi Nursing Home at Chokkasandra, Rs 10,000 on Vivek Scanning Center on Tumakuru Road, Rs 5,000 on Sumukha Poly Clinic at T Dasarahalli, Rs 10,000 on Dental Clinic on Tumakuru Road and Rs 4,000 on Modern Diagnostic Centre at T Dasarahalli.
