BBMP orders closure of six hookah bars in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The members standing committee on health of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) conducted raids on more than six illegal hookah bars. The committee members ordered the closure of these hookah bars.
Three hookah bars on M G Road and two in Indiranagar were shut down and were fined varying from  Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. Also, a few hookah bars that were supplying expired goods to its customers were seized during the raid.

BBMP health committee member Shashikala Keshav, said, “As the city was gearing up for Christmas and New Year celebrations, there were complaints about hookah bars being operated in many parts of the city. We had the information about a few of them. As these hookah bars make good business on weekends we chose to raid on Saturday. We have sent the expired goods to the laboratory and appropriate action will be taken.”
